We will be streaming That Dragon, Cancer this weekend!
Gaming evokes emotion: Elation over defeating the villain, triumph over solving a challenging puzzle, and even frustration when you’re killed in game over, and over, and over. But what about gaming to work through emotions?
That Dragon, Cancer, developed by Ryan and Amy Green, Josh
Larson and Numinous Games, is based on the Green’s life experience raising
their son Joel, who at 12 months was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The Greens
originally developed the game in order to relate their personal experiences
with Joel, but it soon turned into a way to memorialize and personalize their short time with Joel.
Having lost my father to cancer, and watching my mother
battle through it now, I feel like it’s the right game to play, and may even
help me cope with my own feelings.
