SERIOUSLY. IF YOU HAVE NOT WATCHED EPISODE 10 OF SEASON 6 STOP NOW. SPOILERS AHEAD
Game of Thrones is a show that I actually did not begin watching until Season 2 first aired. I was introduced to it by a friend and once I started watching the first couple of episodes I realized this is everything I have ever wanted in a fantasy based television show. What I love the most is how the story is told through politics; which I believe is the strongest part of the show. Because if you take away the politics you just have another bloody, dragon based fantasy. I never read the series of books, and I know that translation to TV can be bad, but I'm perfectly happy with how everything has played out already.
Tonight marked the close of the sixth season. With the final episode the producers have successfully set up what will be an absolutely epic final season. It is being discussed online that the producers are going to pull a Breaking Bad on us with the final 13 episodes being split up into two different seasons. I don't care what they do as long as I get those 13 episodes.
So let's talk about what the hell happened and how the season finale has dramatically changed the direction of the various story branches in a way that hasn't been seen since the Red Wedding in "The Rains of Castamere" episode.
Musical Score
First, we have to talk about the music in this episode. Ramin Djawadi has done an awesome job with the entire soundtrack in this series, but the song that played in the beginning of tonight's episode was absolutely spot on. With the weight of everything going on at this point in the show it was the perfect song to convey the feeling of, "what happens, happens". I don't think any version of loud drums or horns would have fit the atmosphere of going into the trial in front of the Seven. The piano and strings was enough to give you the sense of finality. In case you want to listen to it casually just go here.
Episode 10
A lot of shit happened in this episode:
- Cersei successfully destroyed the Faith and Queen Tyrell (I was wondering if anything would come of the Wildfyre) leading to Cersei being declared Queen and her son killing himself once he realized how evil his mom is and that he lost his smoking hot wife.
- The King of the North was finally declared
- Jon Snow was revealed as being a Targaryen
- Sam finally found himself with more books than he could ever need
- Arya Stark became no one and finally had her revenge on Walder Frey
- Littlefinger stopped being a pervert and told Sansa he loved her. Sansa ain't got no time for that.
- Daenerys named Tyrion Lannister the Hand of the Queen
- Varys Tyrell partnered with Dorne who partnered with Daenerys who is sailing to Westeros with the army she always wanted and three full grown dragons to tear shit up.
- Annnnnd Jaime Lannister returned to King's Landing wondering "WTF!?"
There's definitely more than enough content to lead us through 13 episodes; almost seems like it would take more, but that's just me wanting more episodes.
Cersei has truly become an evil, evil woman, but at this point with everything else she has done is it really a surprise she is as messed up as she is? She bangs her brother, has multiple incest children, loses incest children, kills hundreds of people at once, and now has short hair. What does she have to lose? Nothing now that she is the Queen of Westeros (and you thought our current political climate was bad).
King Tommen was at least a nice King, which gets you nowhere, but it was a nice change of pace. I actually thought there was more than we were seeing when Tommen and Margarey were aligning with the Faith Militant. As if there was a Lannister betrayal about to happen at any moment. With the only glimpse of it possibly happening when Margaery brought up an agreement about her brother being let go. But whatever, one last incest child in the world.
My celebrity crush is now sailing across the seas with the army she has worked hard to get for six seasons and has three full grown dragons going with her. For one, this is going to be pretty freaking epic; but two, she has Tyrion by her side who killed his own father. His siblings have not forgotten about that, so right off the bat Dany has to deal with the Lannisters. She has, mostly, positive intentions and is very ambitious with what she wants to achieve. With Cersei on the Iron Throne it's a Queen vs Queen battle which I'm curious to see in action.
Lastly, there's Jon Snow. The bastard of Ned Stark. Well, not exactly. Jon Targaryen. This one needs no opinion. Just pick up my jaw please.
Closing Thoughts
At this point Dany could arrive, her dragons could annihilate everyone in sight and I would be satisfied. This show is one of a kind, the stage is set and I can't wait to see how it unfolds in the final season(s).
Oh yeah. Don't forget about these assholes.
